Ecofeminism, Women’s Rights and the Natural World

Institut für Kunstwissenschaften, Kunstpädagogik und Kunstvermittlung, Kunsttheorie

Patriarchal capitalism works to colonize women and nature. Ecofeminism is a strategy sparked by women to unite worldwide to protect each other and the environment from violence and exploitation.

We will examine society’s relationship to nature and women, reading a variety of texts from various disciplines. Our goal is not only to understand the destructive mechanisms that face women and the natural world, but to also develop approaches that can lead to a new inclusive humanism that can slow or reverse the death of planet Earth and the death of women which is rapidly moving forward in the name of “progress”.

We will also look at artists who are working with feminism and ecology in mind, to better comprehend how ecofeminist concerns can be incorporated into artistic production.
